With the economic downturn, many companies look to send jobs overseas and save lots of money but what impact does that have here at home on the scores of people looking for work. (Nov. 13)
Question: What is the fallacy with this pro outsourcing american jobs to china argument?
One person says…”americans sell products all over the world, therefore if (we) expect them to buy (our) products, then (we) must buy (their) products.
Ok, I want to see how many people can explain why this person’s argument is a lie.
how about this argument “Who are you to tell me that I cant make my products in China where labor is cheaper”? whats the fallacy with that argument?

the only reason jobs are being sent overseas is because its too expensive to have employees or run a company in the US
every time taxes/fines are increased by the government jobs leave the US to never return, when taxes are raised to the point its not viable to operate in the US the company and/or its jobs leave which mean even fewer taxes can be collected which makes the greedy overpowering US government increase taxes even more
Question: Will outsourcing to countries like China and Indonesia backfire on American investors?
I fully understand the risk vs return principle—but how long can we continue to do business with government that could potentially turn “against” foreign investors? The closest example I have is with Cuba’s revolution and their nationalization of Texaco’s refineries after Fidel took total power. From a purely business standpoint, such companies like Texaco lost big from such a loss-how can we protect our investments in China–if China decides it’s in their best interest to nationalize American or English, etc owned properties and plants? Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

no. investments overseas are generating more profit, as a percentage, than similar investments at home. with a recession looming, this trend will likely continue for at least another year. additionally…the leadership in these countries know said investments are good for maintaining harmony among their people.

Yes 2% of people working in IT industry in India,china are american. They do not need to learn local language at least in India.

Doesn’t the free-market take precedence over all of our beliefs? If an Indian or Chinese engineer is willing to be paid less to design the same product an American engineer would, wouldn’t it go against the “pure free-market” ideology to disallow or place high taxes on corporations who would contract the Chinese or Indian engineer?
Doesn’t that then make you a hypocrite for placing restrictions on the free-market?

I would think that nationalism takes a little precedence over political beliefs. None of us live in the ideal world. We’re not that extreme.

It seems like the the U.S economy could be improved and more jobs for American citizens could be created if the mega companies stop outsourcing to other countries such as China. Also the quality of goods consumed by Americans would be vastly improved.

I would agree with you, but until it becomes more expensive for them to outsource, it won’t stop. The import fees/labor costs would have to increase greatly in order for these plants/factories/products/jobs to come back to the US.

I read a New York Times article today that even the newspaper industry (oh, the irony) is getting outsourced to places like Bangalore, India.
Frankly, I think it’s unfair. The Indians should be producing services for their OWN markets, instead of stealing American jobs!

You could give tax breaks to companies that keep jobs in the US and force those that oursource to pay higher taxes to help increase the price to the point where it would be cheaper to keep the jobs in the US.
The other way is to have people not purchase any products or services from companies that outsource to other countries.
